Why Paul Blamed Adam for Sin

In Romans 5:12-19 and I Corinthians 15:21-22, Paul says that the one man Adam sinned and brought death into the world. It seems to be customary these days to blame Eve for the first sin. After all, she ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil first. But Paul blames Adam. Why is that? Well, in Genesis 2:17 God told Adam, "of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you [singular] shall not eat." Adam apparently shared this rule with Eve, for in speaking to the snake she said the "we" are not to eat. But she believed the snake's lie and ate of the fruit. Moreover, she gave some to Adam and he ate. But when God came walking in the garden, he called for Adam alone. He said, "I commanded you [singular] not to eat." To the woman he merely asked, "What is this that you [singular] have done?" She replied that the snake had deceived her and she ate. When God stated the consequences of this sin to Adam, he said, "Because you [singular] have listened to the voice of your [singular] wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you[singular], 'You [singular] shall not eat of it,' cursed is the ground because of you [singular]." Adam had listened to his wife rather than to God. Eve was deceived, but Paul told Timothy that Adam was not deceived (1 Timothy 2:14); he deliberately disobeyed the commandment that God had given him. God put the blame on Adam. Eve was given consequences, but God never directly accused her of disobeying the command which her husband had shared with her. She disobeyed her husband; he disobeyed God. That is why Paul puts the blame on Adam for bringing sin and death into the world.
