1•1The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his slaves things which have to happen soon; and he made [it] known by sending [it] through his angel to his slave John, •2who testified of the word of God and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, [that is], of as many things as he saw. •3Blessed [is] the one who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and who keep the things that are written in it; for the time [is] near.

•4John to the seven churches that are in Asia:

Grace to ^†you and peace from the One¹ who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who [are] before his throne, •5and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the first-born of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.

To the One who loves us and has loosed² us from our sins by his blood •6and made us a kingdom, priests³ to his God and Father, to him [be] the glory and the might forever and ever.⁴ Amen. •7Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all tribes of the earth will mourn on account of him. Yes, Amen.

•8"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

•9I John, ^†your brother and a partner with [^†you] in the tribulation and the kingdom and the endurance in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. •10I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, •11saying, "Write what you see in a book and send [it] to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea."

•12And I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, •13and in the midst of the lampstands [one] like a son of man, clothed with a robe reaching down to [his] feet and with a golden belt tied around his breasts; •14his head and [his] hair [were] white as white wool, [white] as snow; and his eyes [were] like a flame of fire, •15and his feet

Revelation 1

[were] like fine copper alloy, refined as in a furnace, and his voice [was] like the sound of many waters; •16and in his right hand he held seven stars, and from his mouth projected a sharp two-edged sword, and his face [was] like the sun shining in its power.

•17And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. And he laid his right [hand] on me, saying, "Quit being afraid, I am the first and the last, •18and the living One; I died, and behold, I am alive forever and ever, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. •19Therefore write the things that you have seen, and the things that are, and the things that are going to happen after these things. •20[As for] the mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right [hand], and the seven golden lampstands, the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches and the seven lampstands⁵ are the seven churches.

2•1"To the angel of the church in Ephesus write:

"'The One who holds the seven stars in his right [hand and] who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands says these things: •2I know your works, and [your] labor, and your endurance, and that you cannot bear evil men but have tested those who call themselves apostles and [yet] are not, and found them [to be] false; •3and [I know] you have endurance and have borne up for my name's sake, and you have not become tired. •4But I have [this] against you, that you have left your first love. •5Start remembering then from where you have fallen, and repent and do the works [you did at] first. And if not, I am coming to you¹ and will remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. •6But this you do have, that you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. •7The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in² the paradise of God.'

•8"And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write:

"'The first and the last, who died and lived [again], says these things: •9I know your³ tribulation and [your] poverty (but you are rich) and the slander of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but [are] a synagogue of Satan. •10Fear nothing of what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw [some] of ^†you into jail, so that ^†you may be tested, and ^†you will have⁴ tribulation for ten days. Keep being faithful, [even] to the point of death, and I will give

you the crown of life. •11The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.'

•12"And to the angel of the church in Pergamum write:

"'The One who has the sharp two-edged sword says these things: •13I know⁵ where you dwell, where Satan's throne [is]; and you hold to my name and you did not deny my faith even⁶ in the days of Antipas my witness, my faithful one, who was⁷ killed among ^†you, where Satan dwells. •14But I have a few things against you, because you have [some] there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who was teaching Balak to throw a snare [to sin] before the sons of Israel, that they might eat [meat] sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality. •15So you also have some who likewise hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans.⁸ •16Repent then. And if not, I am coming to you soon and will make war against them with the sword of my mouth. •17The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give [some] of the hidden manna,⁹ and I will give him a white pebble, and on the pebble will have been a new name written, which no one knows except the one who receives [it].'

•18"And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write:

"'The Son of God, who has his eyes as a flame of fire, and his feet like fine copper alloy, says these things: •19I know your works, and your love and faith and service and endurance, and [that] your later works [are] more than the first. •20But I have [this] against you, that you tolerate the woman¹⁰ Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and misleading my slaves to commit sexual immorality and to eat [meat] sacrificed to idols. •21And I gave her time to repent, and [yet] she is not willing to repent of her sexual immorality. •22Behold, I am throwing her into a sickbed,¹¹ and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of

Revelation 2

3•1"And to the angel of the church in Sardis write:

"'The One who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars says these things: I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, and [yet] you are dead. •2Keep watching, and strengthen¹ the things that remain, that are about to die; for I have not found your works² made full in the sight of my God. •3Keep remembering therefore what you received and heard; and keep [that], and repent. If therefore you do not watch, I will come³ like a thief, and you shall not know at what hour I will come upon you. •4But you have a few names in Sardis, [people] who have not defiled their clothes; and they shall walk with me in white, because they are worthy. •5The one who overcomes shall be clothed like this in white clothes, and I will not blot his name out of the book of life; and I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. •6The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the chruches.'

•7"And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:

"'The One who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David, who opens and no one shall shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says these things: •8I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one can shut. [I know] that you have [but] little power, and [yet] you have kept my word and have not denied my name. •9Behold, I will grant [that those] of

the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—behold, I will make them come and bow in worship before your feet, and they shall know that I have loved you. •10Because you have kept my word of endurance, I also will keep you from the hour of testing which is going to come on the whole inhabited [earth], to test those who dwell on the earth. •11I am coming soon; keep holding to what you have, so that no one may take your crown. •12The one who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God; and he shall no longer go outside, and I will write on him the name of my God, the new Jerusalem which comes down out of heaven from my God, and my new name. •13The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.'

•14"And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write:

"'The Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation, says these things: •15I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. O that you were cold or hot! •16So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to spew you out of my mouth. •17[That is] because you say, I am rich, and I have become rich, and I have need of nothing; and you do not know that you are miserable, and pitiful, and poor and blind, and naked. •18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white clothes, so that you may be clothed and the shame of your nakedness may not be apparent, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. •19As many as I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore start being zealous and repent. •20Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me. •21The one who overcomes, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, even as I myself overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. •22The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.'"

4•1After these things, I looked, and behold, a door had been opened in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, [was] saying, "Come up here, and I will show you things that have to happen after these things." •2Immediately I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and [One was] sitting on the throne! •3And the One sitting [there was]¹ like a stone of jasper and sardius in appearance, and around the throne [was] a halo²

like an emerald in appearance. •4And around the throne [were] twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones twenty-four elders were sitting, clothed in white clothes, and [wearing] golden crowns on their heads. •5And from the throne proceed flashes of lightning, and voices and peals of thunder, and seven lamps of fire burn before the throne, which are the seven spirits of God; •6and before the throne [there is] as [it were] a sea of glass, like crystal.

And in the midst of the throne and around the throne, [are] four living beings, full of eyes in front and behind: •7the first living being like a lion, and the second living being like a calf, and the third living being having a face as a man, and the fourth living being like a flying eagle. •8And the four living beings, each one of them having six wings apiece, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they have no rest as they say,

5•1And I saw in the right [hand] of the One sitting on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals; •2and I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who [is] worthy to open the scroll and loose its seals?" •3And no one in heaven nor on earth nor underneath the earth was able to open the scroll nor to look into it. •4And I was weeping much, because no one was found worthy to open¹ the scroll nor to look into it. •5And one of the elders said* to me, "Quit weeping; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome, [so as] to open the scroll and² its seven seals."

Revelation 5

•6And in the midst of the throne and the four living beings and in the midst of the elders, I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slaughtered, having seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven³ spirits of God sent out into all the earth; •7and he went and took [the scroll] out of the right [hand] of the One sitting on the throne. •8And when he took the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. •9And they sang* a new song, saying,

•11And I saw and heard the sound of many angels around the throne and the living beings and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousands of ten thousands and thousands of thousands, •12saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered, to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing!" •13And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and underneath the earth and in the sea, and all things in them, saying, "To the One sitting on the throne and to the Lamb [be] the blessing and the honor and the glory and the might forever and ever!" •14And the four living beings started saying, "Amen!" and the elders fell down and worshiped.

6•1And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seven¹ seals, and I heard one of the four living beings say, as with a voice of thunder, "Come!"² •2And I saw, and behold, a white horse, and the one sitting on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.

•3And when he opened the second seal, I heard the second living being say, "Come!"² •4And out came another horse, a fiery red one; and to him sitting on it was given [the power] to take

peace from the earth,³ and [this was done] so that [people] would slaughter one another; and a great sword was given to him.

•5And when he opened the third seal, I heard the third living being say, "Come!"² And I saw, and behold, a black horse, and the one sitting on it had a pair of balance scales in his hand; •6and I heard as [it were] a voice in the midst of the four living beings saying, "A quart⁴ of wheat for a denarius,⁴ and three quarts³ of barley for a denarius;⁵ and [yet] do not hurt the olive oil and the wine!"

•7And when he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living being say, "Come!"² •8And I saw, and behold, a pale green horse, and the name of him who was sitting upon it [was] Death, and Hades was following with him; and authority was given to them⁶ over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with epidemic⁷ and by the wild beasts of the earth.

•9And when he opened the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slaughtered because of the word of God and because of the testimony⁸ which they kept holding. •10And they cried out with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Master, holy and true, are you not [going] to judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" •11And a white robe was given to each of them and it was said to them that they should rest a little time longer, until [the number of] their fellow slaves also and their brothers should be filled up,⁹ who were going to be killed as they also [had been].

•12And I saw when he opened the sixth seal, and a great earthquake happened; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, the full moon became as blood, •13and the stars of heaven fell to the earth as the fig tree drops its winter fruit when shaken by a great wind, •14and the sky receded as a scroll that is being rolled up, and every mountain and island were moved from

their places. •15And the kings of the earth and the great men and the colonels and the rich and the strong and every slave and freeman hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, •16and they said* to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of the One sitting on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, •17because the great day of their¹⁰ wrath has come, and who is able to stand?"

7•1After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, so that no wind might blow on the earth or on the sea or against any tree. •2And I saw another angel ascending from the east,¹ having the seal of the living God, and he cried out with a loud voice to the four angels who had [power] given to them to hurt the earth and the sea, •3saying, "Do not hurt the earth nor the sea nor the trees, until we have sealed the slaves of our God on their foreheads." •4And I heard the number of the sealed, a hundred [and] forty-four thousand sealed, out of every tribe of the sons of Israel:

out of the tribe of Reuben, twelve thousand;²

out of the tribe of Gad, twelve thousand;²

out of the tribe of Naphtali, twelve thousand;²

out of the tribe of Manasseh, twelve thousand;²

out of the tribe of Levi, twelve thousand;²

out of the tribe of Issachar, twelve thousand;²

out of the tribe of Joseph, twelve thousand;²

out of the tribe of Benjamin, twelve thousand [were] sealed.

•9After these things, I looked, and behold, [I saw] a large crowd which no one could number, out of every nation, and [from all] tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, •10and they were crying out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation [belongs] to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!" •11And all the angels stood around the throne and [around] the elders and the four living

beings, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, •12saying, "Amen! The blessing and the glory and the wisdom and the thanksgiving and the honor and the power and the strength [be] to our God forever and ever! Amen."

•13And one of the elders responded by saying to me, "Who are these, clothed in white robes, and where did they come from?" •14And I said to him, "My lord, you know." And he said to me, "These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation; and they have rinsed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

8•1And when¹ he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. •2And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.

•3And another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a golden censer; and much incense was given to him, that he should offer² [it], with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne; •4and the smoke of the incense ascended with the prayers of the saints from the hand of the angel before God. •5And the angel took the censer and filled it with fire from the altar and threw [it] on the earth; and there were peals of thunder, and voices, and flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

•6And the seven angels who had the seven trumpets made them³ ready to sound the trumpets.

Revelation 8

•7And the first [angel] sounded [his] trumpet, and there came hail and fire, mingled with blood, and it was thrown down to the earth; and a third of the earth was burnt up, and a third of the trees were burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

•8And the second angel sounded [his] trumpet, and [something] like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea; •9and a third of the sea became blood, and a third of the creatures that had life⁴ in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.

•10And the third angel sounded [his] trumpet, and a great star fell from heaven, burning like a lamp, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. •11And the name of the star is called Wormwood. And a third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the waters, because they were made bitter.

•12And the fourth angel sounded [his] trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them might be darkened and the day might not appear for a third of it, and the night likewise.

•13And I saw and heard an eagle,⁵ flying in midheaven, saying with a loud voice, "Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, because of the rest of the blasts of the trumpets of the three angels who are about to sound!"

9•1And the fifth angel sounded [his] trumpet, and I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth, and to him was given the key of the shaft of the abyss. •2And he opened the shaft of the abyss, and smoke went up from the shaft like the smoke of a great furnace,¹ and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the shaft. •3And from the smoke came grasshoppers on the earth, and potency was given to them like the potency [that] scorpions of the earth have. •4And it was said to them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth nor any green [plant] nor any tree, but only the men who have not the seal of God on their foreheads. •5And [a command] was given to them that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months; and their torment [was] as the torment of a scorpion, whenever it strikes a man. •6And in those days men will seek death and shall not find it; and they will desire to die, and death is to flee from them.

•7And the likenesses of the grasshoppers [were] like horses prepared for battle; and on their heads [were], as [it seemed], crowns of gold; and their faces [were] as faces of men. •8And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as lions' [teeth]. •9And they had breastplates as iron

breastplates, and the sound of their wings [was] as the sound of many chariots with horses running to battle. •10And they have tails like scorpions, and stings, and in their tails [is] their potency to hurt men for five months. •11They have [as] king over them the angel of the abyss; his name in Hebrew [is] Abaddon, and in Greek he has the name Apollyon.²

•12The first woe has passed; behold, two woes are still to come after these things.

•13And the sixth angel sounded [his] trumpet, and I heard a voice³ from the four⁴ horns of the golden altar before God, •14saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, "Loose the four angels who have been bound at the great river Euphrates." •15And the four angels were loosed, who had been held ready for [this] hour and day and month and year, so that they might kill a third of mankind. •16And the number of the armies of the horsemen [was] two hundred million;⁵ I heard their number. •17And I saw the horses in my vision and those sitting on them like this: they had breastplates of fiery red and of hyacinthine blue and of sulphurous yellow, and the heads of the horses [were] as heads of lions, and out of their mouths proceeded fire and smoke and sulphur. •18From these three plagues a third of mankind was killed, by the fire and the smoke and the sulphur that proceeded out of their mouths. •19For the potency of the horses is in their mouth and in their tails; for their tails [are] like snakes and have heads, and by means of them they cause hurt.

•20And the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not even repent of the works of their hands so as not to worship demons and idols of gold and silver and copper and stone and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk; •21and they did not repent of their murders nor of their sorcerous drugs⁶ nor of their sexual immorality nor of their thefts.

10•1And I saw another strong angel coming down from heaven, clothed with a cloud, and a halo¹ [was] on his head, and his face [was] as the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire. •2And he had a little scroll open in his hand. And he put his right foot on the sea, and [his] left [foot] on the land,

Revelation 10

•3and cried out with a loud voice, just as a lion roars; and when he cried out, the seven thunders spoke [with] their voices. •4And when the seven thunders had spoken, I was about to write, and I heard a voice from heaven saying, "Seal up the things that the seven thunders have spoken, and do not write them down." •5And the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land lifted up his right hand to heaven •6and swore by the One who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and the things in it, and the earth and the things in it, and the sea and the things it it,² that there should be no more delay,³ •7but [that] in the days of the blast of the seventh angel, whenever he is going to sound [his] trumpet, then the mystery of God would be accomplished, as he proclaimed in the good news to his slaves the prophets.

•8And the voice which I had heard from heaven spoke with me again and said, "Go, take the scroll which is open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land." •9And I went to the angel and told him to give me the little scroll; and he said* to me, "Take and devour it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey." •10And I took the little scroll out of the angel's hand and devoured it, and in my mouth it was sweet as honey, and [yet] when I ate it my stomach was made bitter. •11And they said* to me, "You have to prophesy again about many peoples and nations and tongues and kings."

11•1And there was given to me a [measuring] rod like a staff, and [a voice] said,¹ "Rise and measure the temple of God and the altar and those who worship in it, •2and [yet] leave out the court outside the temple, and do not measure it, because it has been given to the nations,² and they shall tread down the holy city for forty-two months. •3And I will give [power] to my two witnesses and they shall prophesy for one thousand two hundred [and] sixty days, clothed in sackcloth." •4These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands which stand before the Lord³ of the earth. •5And if anyone wishes to hurt them, fire proceeds out of their mouth and devours their enemies; and if anyone would wish to hurt them, he has to be killed like this. •6They have the authority to shut the sky, so that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have authority over the waters to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they

wish. •7And whenever they have finished their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the abyss will make war with them and overcome them and kill them, •8and their corpse⁴ [will lie] in the street of the great city which is spiritually called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. •9And those from among the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations are to see their corpse for three and a half days and not allow their corpses to be placed in a tomb. •10And those who dwell on the earth are to rejoice over them and be merry and they will send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth. •11And after the three and a half days a spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood up on their feet, and great fear fell on those who observed them. •12And they⁵ heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, "Come up here!" And they ascended into heaven in a cloud, and their enemies observed them. •13And in that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell; and seven thousand persons⁶ were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven.

•14The second woe has passed; behold, the third woe is coming soon.

•15And the seventh angel sounded [his] trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdom of the world has become [the kingdom] of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever." •16And the twenty-four elders who sit before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God, •17saying,

•19And God's temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his⁸ covenant was seen in his temple; and there were flashes of lightning, and voices, and peals of thunder, and an earthquake,⁹ and great hail.

Revelation 12

12•1And a great sign appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon [was] underneath her feet, and on her head [was] a crown of twelve stars; •2she was pregnant and she cried* out, having birth-pangs and being tormented to give birth. •3And another sign appeared in heaven; and behold, [it was] a great red dragon,¹ having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. •4And his tail dragged* down a third of the stars of heaven, and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that whenever she did give birth, he might devour her child. •5And she gave birth to a son, a male [child], who is going to shepherd all the nations with a rod of iron, and her child was caught up to God and to his throne. •6And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, so that they might nourish her there for one thousand two hundred [and] sixty days.

•7And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels making war with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels made war, •8and [yet] he did not prevail and there was no place found for them anymore in heaven. •9And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient snake, who is called the Devil and Satan, who leads the whole inhabited [earth] astray—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. •10And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, "Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, because the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them before our God day and night. •11And they have overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life, [even] to the point of death. •12Therefore be glad, [O] heavens and [^†you] who dwell in them! [But] woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to ^†you having great anger, since he knows that he has [only] a short time!"

•13And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male [child]. •14And the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, so that she might fly into the wilderness, to her place where she is to be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the presence of the snake. •15And the snake threw water as a river out of his mouth after the woman, so that he might cause her to be swept away by the river. •16And [yet] the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river which the dragon had thrown out of his mouth. •17And the dragon was angry with the woman, and

Revelation 12

went off to make war with the rest of her offspring, with those who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus. And he stood² on the sand of the sea.

13•1And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on its horns [were] ten diadems and on its heads [were] names¹ of blasphemy. •2And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and its feet [were] as a bear's, and its mouth [was] as a lion's mouth. And the dragon gave it his power and his throne and great authority. •3And one of its heads [seemed] as though it had been slaughtered to death, and [yet] its deadly wound was cured. And the whole earth marveled, [following] after the beast. •4And they worshiped the dragon, because he had given [his] authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who [is] like the beast, and who can make war with it?"

•5And there was given to it a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and authority was given to it to do [this]² for forty-two months; •6and it opened its mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme his name and his dwelling, [that is], those who dwell in heaven.³ •7And [the right] was given to it to make war with the saints and to overcome them.⁴ And authority was given it over every tribe and people and tongue and nation. •8And all who dwell on earth will worship it, [everyone] whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slaughtered.⁵ •9If anyone has an ear, let him hear:

Here is the endurance and the faith of the saints.

Revelation 13

•11And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; and it had two horns like a lamb and [yet] it was speaking as a dragon. •12And it exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence, and makes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was cured. •13And it does great signs, so that it even makes fire come down from heaven to earth in the presence of men. •14And it leads astray those who dwell on earth because of the signs which were given to it to do in the presence of the beast, telling those who dwell on earth to make an image to the beast who had* the sword wound and [yet] lived. •15And [power] was given to it to give a spirit to the image of the beast so that the image of the beast might even speak and cause⁷ as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. •16And it makes all [submit], [both] small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slaves, so that they might give them a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, •17and so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, [that is], the name of the beast or the number of its name. •18Here is wisdom: the one who has understanding must calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. And its number [is] six hundred [and] sixty-six.⁸

14•1And I looked, and behold, the Lamb stood on Mount Zion, and with him a hundred [and] forty-four thousand who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads. •2And I heard a voice from heaven as the sound of many waters and as the sound of loud thunder; and the voice which I heard [was] as [the sound of] harpers harping on their harps, •3and they sing as [it were]¹ a new song before the throne and before the four living beings and the elders. And no one could learn the song except the hundred [and] forty-four thousand who had been bought from the earth. •4These are the ones who have not been defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These have been purchased² from mankind [as] firstfruits for God and the Lamb. •5And in their mouth no lie was found; they are without blemish.

Revelation 14

•6And I saw another angel flying in midheaven, having an eternal gospel to proclaim the good news of to those who dwell³ on earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people; •7and he said with a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come; and worship the One who made heaven and earth, and the sea and the springs of water."

•8And another angel, a second, followed, saying, "Fallen, fallen⁴ [is] Babylon the great, she who has made all nations drink of the wine of the anger of her sexual immorality."

•9And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, "If anyone worships the beast and its image, and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, •10he also shall drink of the wine of the anger of God, mixed undiluted⁵ in the cup of his wrath, and he shall be tormented with fire and sulphur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. •11And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; and they have no rest, day and night, those who worship the beast and its image, and anyone who receives the mark of its name." •12Here is the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

•13And I heard a voice from heaven saying, "Write [this]: Blessed [are] the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes,"⁶ says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labors, for their works follow with them!"

•14And I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat [one] like a son of man, having a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand. •15And another angel came out of the temple, crying out with a loud voice to the one sitting on the cloud, "Put in your sickle and reap, because the hour to reap has come, because the harvest of the earth is fully ripe." •16So the one sitting on the cloud swung his sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.

•17And another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he also had a sharp sickle. •18And another angel came out from the altar, the [angel] who has authority over fire, and he called out with a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, saying, "Put in your sharp sickle, and gather

Revelation 14

the clusters of the vine of the earth, because its grapes are ripe." •19And the angel swung his sickle on the earth and gathered [the grapes from] the vine of the earth, and threw [them] into the great wine press of the anger of God. •20And the wine press was trodden outside the city, and blood came out of the wine press, as high as the bridles of the horses, for one thousand six hundred stadia.⁷

15•1And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, seven angels having seven plagues, [which are] the last, because with them the anger of God is ended.

•2And I saw as [it were] a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those [who had come away] victorious from the beast and from its image¹ and from the number of its name, standing beside² the sea of glass, having harps of God. •3And they sing the song of Moses, the slave of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,

•5And after these things I looked, and the temple of the tent of testimony in heaven was opened, •6and the seven angels who had the seven plagues came out of the temple, clothed in clean bright linen,⁴ and around [their] chests were tied golden belts. •7And one of the four living beings gave the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the anger of God who lives forever and ever. •8And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power, and no one could enter into the temple until the seven plagues of the seven angels were ended.

Revelation 15

16•1And I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, "Go and pour out the seven¹ bowls of the anger of God onto the earth."

•2And the first [angel]² went and poured out his bowl onto the earth, and evil and bad sores came on the men who had the mark of the beast and who worshiped its image.

•3And the second [angel]² poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became blood, as [that] of a dead [man], and every living soul died that was³ in the sea.

•4And the third [angel]² poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of waters, and it⁴ became blood. •5And I heard the angel of the waters say,

•8And the fourth [angel]² poured out his bowl on the sun, and [power] was given to it to scorch men with fire; •9and men were scorched by the great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who had authority over these plagues, and they did not repent [so as] to give him glory.

•10And the fifth [angel]² poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom was plunged into darkness; and [people] were chewing their tongues because of the pain, •11and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and because of their sores, and did not repent of their works.

•12And the sixth [angel]² poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, to prepare the way for the kings from the east.⁵ •13And I saw [coming] out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three

Revelation 16

unclean spirits as frogs; •14for they are spirits of demons, doing signs, which are going out to the kings of the whole inhabited [earth], to gather them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty. •15("Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed [is] the one who is watching and keeping his clothes so that he may not walk naked and [people] see his indecency!") •16And they gathered them at a place which is called in Hebrew Harmagedon.⁶

•17And the seventh [angel]² poured out his bowl on the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple,⁷ from the throne, saying, "It is done!" •18And there were flashes of lightning, and voices, and peals of thunder, and there was a great earthquake such as had not been since man was⁸ on the earth, so great—so [very] great—[was that] earthquake. •19And the great city was [split] into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the anger of his wrath. •20And every island fled away, and no mountains were to be found; •21and great hailstones, weighing about a talent,⁹ came* down on men out of heaven, and men blasphemed God for the plague of the hail, because the plague of it is extremely great.

17•1And one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, "Come, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who sits on many waters, •2with whom the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality, and those who dwell on earth have become drunk from the wine of her sexual immorality." •3And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness, and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, and it had seven heads and ten horns. •4And the woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and gilded with gold and precious stones and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the unclean things of her¹ sexual immorality; •5and on her forehead a name [was] written, a mystery: "Babylon the Great, the Mother of Prostitutes and of the Abominations of the Earth." •6And I saw the woman, drunk from the blood of the saints and from the blood of the witnesses for Jesus.

Revelation 17

And when I saw her I marveled with great marvel. •7And the angel said to me, "Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carries her, which has seven heads and the ten horns. •8The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is going to ascend out of the abyss and is going¹ to destruction; and those who dwell on earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will marvel when they see the beast, because it was and is not and [then] is present. •9Here [is need for] a mind having wisdom: the seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits; •10they are also seven kings, five [of whom] have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come, and whenever he comes he has to remain a little while. •11And the beast that was and is not, he is also an eighth and is [one] of the seven, and is going to destruction. •12And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour with the beast. •13These have one resolve and give over their power and authority to the beast. •14They will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him [are] called and chosen and faithful."

•15And he said* to me, "The waters that you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples and crowds and nations and tongues. •16And the ten horns that you saw, and the beast, they will hate the prostitute, and will make her desolate and naked, and eat her flesh and burn her up with fire, •17for God has put it into their hearts to do his resolve and to come to one resolve and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God shall be accomplished. •18And the woman that you saw is the great city which has kingly power over the kings of the earth."

18•1After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority; and the earth was lit up from his glory. •2And he cried out with a strong voice, saying,

Revelation 18

•9And the kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived sensually with her, will weep and wail over her whenever they see the smoke of her burning; •10they will stand far off, because of [their] fear of her torment, and say,

Revelation 18

•11And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargo any more, •12cargo of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all kinds of citron wood, and all kinds of vessels of ivory, and all kinds of vessels of valuable wood and of copper and of iron and of marble, •13and cinnamon, and spice,⁸ and incense, and ointment, and frankincense, and wine, and olive oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and domestic animals and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves,⁹ that is, souls of men.
•14"And the fruit of your soul's desire has gone from you,
and all the dainties and the splendor are lost to you, and they shall find them no more at all!"

And every [ship] pilot, and everyone who sails to a place, and sailors, and as many as work on the sea [for a living], stood far off •18and started crying out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying,
"What [city was] like the great city?"

•20Be glad over her, [O] heaven, and
O saints and apostles and prophets,
because God has pronounced judgment for ^†you against her!

•21And a strong angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw [it] into the sea, saying,
"So all at once¹⁰ shall Babylon the great city be thrown down,
    and shall be found no more;
•22and the sound of harpers and musicians and flute players and trumpeters,
    shall be heard in you no more;

Revelation 18

19•1After these things I heard as [it were] the loud voice of a large crowd in heaven, saying,

•8And it was granted her that she might clothe herself in fine linen, bright [and] clean"—for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.

•9And he said* to me, "Write this: Blessed [are] those who have been invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb." And he said* to me, "These are true words of God." •10And I fell down before his feet to worship him, and he said* to me, "See [that you do] not [do that]! I am a fellow slave with you and your brothers who hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God!" For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

•11And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! And the One sitting on it [is] called³ Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. •12And his eyes [are] like⁴ a flame of fire, and on his head [are] many diadems; and he has a name written which no one knows except himself. •13And he [is] clothed in a cloak dipped in⁵ blood, and his name is called The Word of God. •14And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white [and] clean, were following him on white horses. •15And from his mouth projects a sharp sword, so that with it he may strike down the nations, and he will shepherd them with a rod of iron; and he is to tread the wine press of the wine of the anger of the wrath of the Almighty. •16And on [his] cloak and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

•17And I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in midheaven, "Come, gather for the great supper of God, •18so that ^†you may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of colonels, and the flesh of strong men, and the flesh of horses and those who sit on them, and the flesh of all [people], both free and slave, both small and great." •19And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered to make war with the One who sits on the horse and with his army. •20And the beast was taken [prisoner], and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he led astray those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulphur. •21And the rest were killed by the sword of the One who sits on the horse, [the sword] that projects from his mouth; and all the birds ate their fill of their flesh.

Revelation 19

20•1And I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. •2And he seized the dragon, that ancient snake, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, •3and threw him into the abyss, and shut [it] and sealed [it] over him, so that he might lead the nations astray no more, until the thousand years were ended. After these things he has to be loosed for a little time.

•4And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And [I saw] the souls of those who had been beheaded because of [their] testimony to Jesus and because of the word of God, and who had not worshiped the beast nor its image and had not received the mark on [their] forehead and on their hand. And they lived [again], and reigned with Christ a thousand years. (•5The rest of the dead did not live [again] until the thousand years were ended.) This [is] the first resurrection. •6Blessed and holy [is] the one who has a part in the first resurrection! Over these the second death has no authority, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and they shall reign with him the¹ thousand years.

•7And whenever the thousand years are ended, Satan will be loosed from his jail •8and will come out to lead astray the nations which are at the four corners of the earth, [that is], Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number [is] as the sand of the sea. •9And they went up over the width of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city; and fire came down out of heaven² and devoured them. •10And the devil who had led them astray was thrown into the lake of fire and sulphur where the beast and the false prophet [were] also, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

•11And I saw a great white throne and the One sitting on it; from his presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. •12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is [the book] of life.

Revelation 20

And the dead were judged by the things written in the books, in accordance with their works. •13And the sea gave up the dead in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead in them, and they each were judged in accordance with their works. •14And Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire;³ •15and if anyone['s name] was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

21•1And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. •2And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband; •3and I heard a loud voice from the throne¹ saying, "Behold, the dwelling of God [is] with men. And he shall dwell with them, and they shall be his peoples,² and God himself shall be with them, [and be] their God.³ •4And he shall wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, because⁴ the former things have passed away."

•5And the One who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." And he said*, "Write [this], because these words⁵ are trustworthy and true." •6And he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give [a drink] free of cost to the one who is thirsty from the spring of the water of life. •7The one who overcomes shall inherit these things, and I will be to him God and he shall be to me a son. •8But [as] for the cowardly, and unbelieving,⁶ and abominable, and murderers, and sexually immoral [people], and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part [shall be] in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death."

•9And there came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues, and spoke with me, saying, "Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb." •10And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, •11having the glory of God, its splendor like a precious stone, as a stone of jasper, clear as crystal. •12It had a great and high wall, and had twelve

Revelation 21

gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and [on the gates] names were inscribed, which are the names⁷ of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel: •13on the east three gates, and on the north three gates, and on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. •14And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

•15And the one speaking with me had a golden measuring rod to measure the city and its gates and its wall. •16And the city lies foursquare, that is, its length [is] as much as the width. And he measured the city with the rod, twelve thousand stadia;⁸ its length and width and height are equal. •17And he measured its wall, a hundred [and] forty-four cubits⁹ [by] a man's measure, that is, an angel's. •18And the material of its wall [was] jasper, and the city [was] clear¹⁰ gold, like clear glass. •19The foundations of the wall of the city [were] adorned with every kind of precious stone: the first foundation [was] jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, •20the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh hyacinth, the twelfth amethyst. •21And the twelve gates [were] twelve pearls, each one of the gates was [made] from one pearl apiece. And the street of the city [was] clear¹⁰ gold, as transparent [as] glass.

•22And I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. •23And the city has no need for sun nor moon to shine on it, for the glory of God lights it up, and its lamp [is] the Lamb. •24And the nations¹¹ shall walk about through its light; and the kings of the earth are bringing their glory into it.¹² •25And its gates shall not be shut by day—for there shall be no night there. •26And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it.¹³ •27And there shall not enter into it any defiled thing, and [neither] one who does an abomination and [tells] a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life.

22•1And he showed me the river¹ of the water of life, bright as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb •2in the middle of the street of the city. And on this side and that side of the river [was] the tree of life,² producing twelve [kinds of] fruits, yielding its fruit each

Revelation 22

month; and the leaves of the tree [were] for the curing of the nations. •3And there shall no more be any accursed thing. And the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and his slaves shall serve him; •4and they shall see his face, and his name [shall be] on their foreheads. •5And night shall be no more; and they have no need for light of lamp and light of sun, because the Lord God shall shine on them, and they shall reign forever and ever.

•6And he said to me, "These words [are] faithful and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets,³ has sent his angel to show to his slaves things which have to happen soon. •7And behold, I am coming soon." Blessed [is] the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.

•8And I John [am] the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw [them], I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things. •9And he said* to me, "See [that you do] not [do that]! I am a fellow slave with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!"

•10And he said* to me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. •11The one who does wrong must still do wrong, and the filthy one must still be filthy, and the righteous one must still do righteousness, and the holy one must still be holy."

•12"Behold, I am coming soon, and my reward [is] with me, to repay each one as his work is. •13I [am] the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end."

•14Blessed [are] those who rinse their robes,⁴ so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter into the city by the gates. •15Outside [are] the dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral [people] and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and makes a lie.

•16"I Jesus have sent my angel to testify these things to ^†you for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star."

Revelation 22

•17And the Spirit and the Bride say, "Come." And let the one who hears say, "Come." And let the one who is thirsty come, let the one who [so] wishes take the water of life free of cost.

•18I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book, •19and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.

•20The One who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!

•21The grace of the Lord Jesus⁵ [be] with all.^6,7
