Readings and Homework for James - Jude

Read the following from James:

1:2-8  joy in suffering / asking for wisdom
	v. 5--if lack wisdom, ask God
1:22-27  doers of the word / pure religion
	v. 22--doers and not hearers only
	v. 27--religion that is pure and undefiled
2:1-13  partiality and prejudice
	v. 10--break one point of law and guilty of all
2:14-26  faith and works
	v. 24--not by faith only
4:13-17  if the Lord wills
	v. 17--it is sin to fail to do what one knows is right
5:13-20  praying for the sick / restoring the erring
	v. 16--confess your sins and pray

Read the following from 1 Peter:

1:18-23  born anew
	vv. 18-19--ransomed with the precious blood of Christ
	v. 23--born anew through the word of God
2:21-25  the example of Christ
	v. 22--he committed no sin
	v. 24--he bore our sins in his body on the tree
3:15-22  suffering for doing good
	v. 15--be prepared to make a defense
	v. 19--Christ preached to the spirits in prison
	v. 21--baptism saves you through the resurrection of Christ
4:15-16  suffering as a Christian
5:8-9  resist the devil
	v. 8--like a roaring lion

Read the following from 2 Peter:

1:3-11  growth in Christian virtues
	v. 3--given us all things that pertain to life
	v. 10--if you do this, you will never fall
1:20-2:4  true and false prophecy
	1:20-21--scripture not of private interpretation
	2:1--false teachers will arise
	2:4--angels that sinned
3:3-16  the second coming
	vv. 3-4--scoffers of the second coming
	v. 8--day and thousand years
	v. 9--God does not want any to perish
	vv. 10-12--heavens and elements destroyed by fire
	v. 13--new heavens and new earth
	v. 16--twist scriptures hard to understand to destruction

Read the following from 1 John:

1:5-2:6  the walk of right living
	v. 7--if we walk in the light
	vv. 8, 10--if we say we have no sin
	v. 9--if we confess our sins
	vv. 1-2--Jesus, both advocate and atoning sacrifice
	v. 3--how to know that we know Him
2:15-17  love of the world
	v. 16--lusts of flesh & eyes and pride of life
4:7-8  love one another for God is love
5:1-3  the victory of faith
	v. 4--faith is the victory that overcomes the world
5:13  the purpose for writing the book
	v. 13--know that you have eternal life
Read 2 John 4-10  warning against deceivers and antichrists
	vv. 9-10--don't greet anyone not in the doctrine of Christ
Read 3 John 5-10  acceptance of and opposition to missionaries
Read Jude 3  false teachers
	v. 3--contend for the faith once for all delivered
